The Student Congress has always played a relatively unrecorded, but significant role in the Australasian architecture community.  Two past organisers of Student Congress (NZ, 2007) will lead a participatory presentation and workshop, sharing the amazing visual and anecdotal history of Congress since the 1960s, through New Zealand, Australia, and Papua New Guinea.  The presentation will act as a catalyst for a Workshop/Masterclass on student-led organisations and events, ranging from the basics of a student association (lectures series, parties, Design Balls) to major undertakings like Congress.

This is a must for aspiring Congress organisers, and those interested in student-led event-design.

For those particularly interested in hosting a future Congress, we recommend preparing a one-page proposal of your event, including (note this is not compulsory):

  • A description of the context of your Congress (city, school, profession, community)
  • Supporting comments from your Head of School/Program
  • Initial sketch of creative direction, speakers, possible role of the Congress...
